Jonathan Woodgate has slotted back in at Middlesbrough seamlessly and his return was celebrated by many at the Championship club, according to a report from The Northern Echo

The 42-year-old had multiple spells at the Riverside as a player and joined as a coach after hanging up his boots but his time as manager ultimately proved to be ill-fated and he was sacked after just a year in charge.

However, he has returned to the North East club as a first team coach following the appointment of Michael Carrick recently and has helped the former England and Manchester United midfielder start to turn fortunes around for the Teessiders.

A report from The Northern Echo has shed some light on the 42-year-old's homecoming.

It claims Woodgate has slotted back in seamlessly at Boro while it appears he remains a popular figure there despite how his spell in the dugout ended as it is said his return was celebrated by many at the Riverside outfit.

On the pitch, Carrick's side have climbed to 14th in the Championship and are now just four points away from the top six.

The Verdict

Woodgate's time in charge of Boro didn't work out but it seems his latest return to the club at which he started his career may be a better fit.

The 42-year-old appears to have slotted in seamlessly and should be a really useful asset for Carrick as the season wears on.

He played at a high level as a defender, is a well reknowned coach, and knows exactly what this club means to its fanbase.

Things are certainly looking up for Boro at the moment.
