Hull City manager Grant McCann has confirmed that recovering duo Callum Elder and Josh Magennis have a chance to feature for the side this weekend.

Hull head into the weekend looking to get their play-off push back on track after falling to defeat at home to Fulham last time out. The Tigers are down in 11th but they are just three points behind sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday, meaning that a win could massively bridge the gap this weekend.

McCann, like most managers in the league, has had to contend with injuries to key players over the festive period and New Year, with Callum Elder, Josh Magennis, Jon Toral, and Kevin Stewart all missing out with various injuries over that period.

The Australian left-back, Elder, has been missing from the squad ever since he had to be brought off in the first half of their Boxing Day defeat against Nottingham Forest with an injury to his hamstring.

Meanwhile, Josh Magennis hasn’t featured for Grant McCann’s side since the 4-0 thumping of Preston North End back in November, as he sits out with a torn hamstring.

However, speaking to the club’s official site ahead of the trip to Derby County on Saturday, McCann had a positive update on the pair’s fitness:

The Tigers head into the weekend looking to do the double over Derby after Jarrod Bowen’s brace helped seal a 2-0 win over the Rams earlier in the season.

Can you remember the Tigers' biggest winning margin from recent years?

The verdict

This is a big boost for the side who have faltered of late in their pursuit of the play-offs and will need their full squad fit for as much of the season as possible if they are to try break into the top six.

Magennis’ goals haven’t exactly been regular this season but his presence and intelligence up front is a huge bonus to how McCann sets up his side, and Elder is a key part of a very solid backline under McCann at the KCOM Stadium.
