Portsmouth are not currently looking to add to their options in attacking midfield, according to BBC South reporter Andrew Moon.

It is understood that due to this particular stance, Pompey will not be making a move for Alex Gilbey or Luke McCormick this summer.

Both of these players were linked with a move to Fratton Park yesterday.

A Patreon report from Alan Nixon suggested that Portsmouth were interested in signing Gilbey from Charlton Athletic and McCormick from AFC Wimbledon.

McCormick, who is believed to be a target for Bristol Rovers and Hibernian, produced some impressive performances for the Dons last season.

In the 40 appearances that he made in League One, McCormick scored seven goals and provided eight assists for his team-mates.

Whereas McCormick has yet to play a game during the current term, Gilbey has lined up for Charlton this month.

The midfielder helped his side seal a place in the second round of the League Cup by featuring against Queens Park Rangers at The Valley.

Portsmouth will be looking to build upon their recent victory over Cheltenham Town when they face Cambridge United in the third-tier tomorrow.

A brace from Colby Bishop secured all three points for Pompey at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium last Saturday.

The Verdict

When you consider that Portsmouth are currently able to call upon the services of a number of individuals who are capable of featuring in midfield, it is hardly a surprise that they are not looking to add to their options in this area.

Having opted to sign 11 players already this summer, it will be interesting to see whether Portsmouth decide to engage in some more transfer activity between now and the end of the transfer window.

Pompey head coach Danny Cowley will need to resolve the future of Ryan Tunnicliffe in the coming days after recently revealing that the midfielder has been the subject of a couple of bids from elsewhere.

As for Gilbey and McCormick, there is still a chance that these two players could move on to pastures new this summer.

Given that they are both able to play in an advanced central role, their versatility could prove to be useful for a potential suitor.
