Portsmouth captain Tom Naylor has stated that he wants the side to go under the radar in order to get into the Championship.

Pompey had a disastrous start to the season and there were calls for Kenny Jackett to leave the club. However, a recent run of form has propelled them to within three points of the play-offs but they must remain grounded, especially after a 4-1 defeat to Accrington Stanley on the weekend.

The sale of Jamal Lowe to Wigan in the summer seemed to hit the side hard, but now they are starting to score goals and the only questions being asked of them are in the defensive positions.

Naylor has expressed that he wants this Portsmouth side to have a real surge towards the end of the season and gain promotion to the Championship.

Speaking to Portsmouth News, Naylor said: "Last season we were on fire and ahead by seven points and then we just fell short.

"This year it's the other way round and it would be good to have a late surge towards the end of the season.

"We want to go under the radar, get up there and get into the Championship."

The Verdict

It would be a really tremendous achievement if Portsmouth were able to gain promotion to the Championship this season.

After the poor start that they had, they now need to find a consistency that can see the points ticking over until the end of the season. The play-offs are now within reach, and there's no reason why Pompey can't compete in them once more.

Jackett has so much experience at this level, and the supporters have to remain patient as he knows how to get results in the long-term.
