Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has stated that Andy Cannon will be an important player for the club this season despite any new faces joining the club. The midfielder has featured in all eight of Portsmouth's matches this season, although only one of those appearances was a league start. Cannon is looking to make a name for himself under Jackett at Fratton Park and after a stop start campaign last year, there is now an opportunity for the player to cement a place in the Portsmouth side. Jackett has expressed that that regardless of any transfer activity that could happen over the coming days, Cannon will remain a key player for his side and an important member of the Portsmouth squad throughout the season. Speaking to Portsmouth News, Jackett said: "He is a key player and a vital part of the group.
"Andy complements those guys who are playing. He's come on in a high number of games and is going to be a key member of the group this year."

The Verdict

It's good to see the manager giving the player some backing and that will only do good things for the midfielder's confidence especially seeing as though he hasn't started as many matches as he'd have liked at this stage of the campaign.

Portsmouth need to try and get back to fighting for the top seven in the division and questions have been raised whether Cannon is capable of being a key player in a team near the top of the league.

His potential is there and if Jackett can nurture him and bring him into the side at the right moment then there's no doubt that he could be a big asset to the team.
