Kenny Jackett has played down fears of a long-term injury to Ellis Harrison claiming the Portsmouth striker suffered a 'dead leg' during Tuesday's victory.

It was an eventful night at Fratton Park, and Pompey will now travel to Wembley once more having beaten League Two Exeter City in the Football League Trophy.

Two goals in added time saw Jackett's side come from 2-1 down to win 3-2 and the result sparked pandemonium for the home supporters watching on.

Harrison had to leave the pitch after just 24 minutes, which sparked fears that Pompey's promotion efforts could be dealt with a massive blow.

However, Jackett has played down any worry and expressed that the forward could even be back for Saturday's game against Fleetwood Town.

Speaking to the Portsmouth News, Jackett said: "Ellis has a dead leg, he did try to run it off but it’s pretty apparent really he wasn’t going to do that and unfortunately had to come off.

"I don’t think it’s too bad, though, we are hopeful he can be there at the weekend. We will see."

The Verdict

It would have been a serious blow to Portsmouth's chances of promotion had it been a much bigger injury.

Harrison is an instrumental part of the Pompey side and does a lot more than just the average League One striker. His willing running and work-rate makes him one of the best in this Pompey team.

Portsmouth have been very good recently, and getting to Wembley is a great achievement especially after playing at the stadium last season when they beat Sunderland in the same competition.

It only adds more excitement and confidence to the side, and there's no reason why the side can't use this to help them go on and secure that all-important promotion to the Championship.
