Kenny Jackett has stated that Portsmouth are getting into a nice winning habit after beating Northampton in the Leasing.com Trophy.

It was a good victory for Pompey as they came from behind to score either side of the break and claim victory in front of their own fans at Fratton Park.

This meant that Jackett's side comfortably sailed through to the third round of the competition that they won last season.

Leon Maloney netted the equaliser, his first goal for the club, before Marcus Harness claimed all three points for Portsmouth with a stunning volley in the second-half.

Jackett expressed that Northampton were lucky it only ended 2-1, and that his side are getting into a nice winning habit now, having found victory in their last six games.

Speaking to Portsmouth's official website, Jackett said: “We were dominant after the break and really should have put the game to bed by scoring a few more.

“It took some excellent saves from their goalkeeper to keep it at 2-1, but we’re through in the competition and winning is a nice habit to get into.

“We’ve got a consistent and committed bunch here. There were some performances that we’re very pleased with.”

The Verdict

It was another good win for Portsmouth, and it is really beginning to look like Jackett has turned things around after what had been an incredibly slow start to the campaign.

Winning is good for confidence in whatever competition you play, and the fact that Pompey managed to get the win after making nine changes just shows the squad depth that Jackett has available to him at the club.

They now need to push on and carry on this terrific run of form. They face a tough test on Saturday when they host a strong Peterborough side at Fratton Park, Pompey know a win could take them into the play-offs.
