Matt Grimes would be the right kind of player to bolster Pompey's squad.

The 22-year-old was on loan at Northampton this season, but was unable to stop them from going down. He was a key player for the team as he made 44 league appearances and scored four goals as well as assisting 10 for the Cobblers.

This was his most successful loan spell to date because his playing time at Blackburn and Leeds was limited. Therefore, Kenny Jackett should take advantage of his experience in this division by bringing him on loan because he is obviously talented.

Grimes played a variety of roles for Northampton, but he spent most of his time in central midfield, so his attacking contributions are impressive from that position.

Portsmouth's season was ruined by a major injury crisis which led to a number of players missing large chunks of the season while others missed it altogether. However, they still managed to finish in eighth with only five points separating them from the play-offs. Therefore, they don't need to spend much in the summer to get to their target because they should have a much stronger squad, regardless.

They only need to make a few signings with Grimes being one of them because he would be cheap due to being on loan and could give them that added attacking edge with his creativity and final third threat working well with clinical striker Brett Pitman.
