Portsmouth are once again trying to sign Ipswich Town striker Ellis Harrison as they seek reinforcements up top, according to the Portsmouth News.

Pompey are still reeling following their League One play-off semi-final defeat against Sunderland, but it appears Jackett has already set his sights on long-term target Harrison in preparation for next season.

The report says that Kenny Jackett tried to bring Harrison to Fratton Park last summer before he joined the Portman Road outfit, and he was also interested in securing the player on a loan deal in January.

However, that didn't materialise either, with James Vaughan joining the club at the start of 2019, although he was not always a regular and didn't do much to help Pompey's promotion push.

Meanwhile, Harrison endured a frustrating season in Suffolk as the Tractor Boys suffered relegation from the Championship, with the 25-year-old scoring just once in 17 games for the side.

The Verdict

Harrison's record at Ipswich will not inspire Portsmouth fans enormously, but his form at Bristol Rovers prior to that suggests he is a capable striker in the lower leagues.

Jackett's long-term interest in Harrison also suggests he has watched him closely, and that he would fit in to the Portsmouth side well.

Given that the forward only made 17 appearances for a struggling Ipswich side last term, it seems likely he could be on the move again and a transfer could suit all parties as Harrison looks to rediscover his form.
