Portsmouth are interested in signing Tottenham striker Kion Etete, a report from The News has revealed.

Etete joined Tottenham from Notts County back in the summer of 2019, with the 20-year-old yet to make his senior debut for Spurs.

However, he has still enjoyed plenty of first-team football this season on loan elsewhere this season.

The first half of this season saw Etete score six goals in 23 games for League Two side Northampton, before switching to League One with Cheltenham in January, where he scored three times in 13 games.

Now it seems as though his performances during those loan spells, have started to generate interest in the striker from elsewhere.

According to this latest update, Portsmouth are now keen on a deal to sign Etete, whose power and athleticism apparently fits into what manager Danny Cowley is looking for in a striker ahead of next season.

However, Pompey are not alone with their interest in the striker, with Millwall said to be among a number of Championship sides who are keen on signing the 20-year-old.

As things stand, there is a year remaining on Etete's contract with Tottenham, securing his future in North London until the end of next season.

The Verdict

This could be a rather decent signing for Portsmouth you feel.

As things stand, the League One side do not have any strikers contracted to the club for next season, something they are obviously going to want to address.

It seems Etete could fit the bill for them to target given his characteristics, while he also knows where the back of the net is as well, which is obviously useful in his position.

The fact there is just a year remaining on his contract could make this an affordable deal as well, and it could be a significant statement of intent from Pompey if they were to beat Championship clubs to his signature.
