Portsmouth have taken a step forward in the race to sign in-demand Preston North End striker Jayden Stockley as, according to Lancashire Live, they’ve been given permission to open talks with him.
Ipswich Town and Rotherham United are also understood to be hot in pursuit of Stockley but it seems Pompey have moved ahead in the race for the striker.
Lancashire Live has named the South Coast club as the favourites to sign the Preston man this summer and revealed that they’ve been granted permission to open talks with him.
It is thought that with a year left on his current deal at Deepdale, the North West club may struggle to recoup the £750,000 they paid Exeter City for him in January 2019.

It seems Pompey are now the frontrunners to land Stockley and have been given permission to open talks with him.
Following his impressive loan spell at the Valley, Charlton seemed the likely destination but they will now have to act quickly if they want to ensure he makes the switch to south London rather than the South Coast.
Cashing in on him now makes a lot of sense for Preston, who otherwise run the risk of seeing him walk away for nothing next summer.
Stockley’s struggled to really make an impact for the Championship side and you feel stepping back down to League One is the best thing for him.
