Portsmouth’s supporters have finally had something to celebrate after years of hurt, with Paul Cook leading the club to promotion and the Sky Bet League Two title this season.

With a League One campaign on the horizon, Pompey will be expected to be active in the transfer market, as they look to continue their rise back through the Football League.

One player who Cook’s side will embark on their League One campaign without is Enda Stevens, who looks set to make a move to the Championship with Sheffield United, having failed to renegotiate a contract with Pompey.

The left-back made 46 appearances across all competitions for Pompey in their promotion campaign, and his absence next season will be a big blow for Cook, as he looks to continue his side’s revival.

One player Portsmouth could look to bring in to replace Stevens is Leeds United’s Tyler Denton, who has impressed during his limited opportunities at Elland Road this season.

Leeds would likely only allow Denton to leave on-loan during the summer, but the Whites may be keen for the 21-year old to gain some much-needed experience in the lower leagues.

Denton made a spectacular debut under Garry Monk earlier this season, scoring the winning goal against Luton Town in the EFL Cup back in August, but found himself behind Gaetano Berardi and Charlie Taylor in selection for the Championship.

Taylor is set to leave Leeds this coming summer, but the Whites will be expected to replace the left-back in due course with a more experienced head.

Denton needs to gain some first-team experience away from Elland Road, just as Taylor did during his early days with Leeds, and a club on the rise such as Pompey would be the perfect destination for the 21-year old.

Pompey’s problem at left-back would not be completely resolved by Denton, who is a short-term fix, but with the youngster looking to impress his parent-club, a move to Fratton Park could benefit all next season.
