Portsmouth are set to sign Jordy Hiwula on a contract until January.

Kenny Jackett's side have endured a mixed start to the League One season and in reaction to that, the Pompey boss looks set to make an out-of-window signing.

As per Andrew Moon, Hiwula will be through the door shortly.

It will be a short-term contract for the 26-year-old, who will almost be on trial heading into the New Year as he agrees to a contract until January.

Most recently, Hiwula has been with Coventry in League One.

He played 54 times in League One over the course of the last two seasons, scoring 14 goals and registering a further six assists for the Sky Blues.

There were a further three goals across other competitions for the striker that's played at Bradford, Fleetwood and Wigan amongst other clubs.

Pompey currently sit eighth in the League One table, two points outside the play-off places.

Jackett's side have scored nine times in seven fixtures this season, but have drawn blanks in three of their opening rounds.

They beat Gillingham 2-0 on Tuesday evening thanks to goals from John Marquis and Michael Jacobs.

The Verdict

Despite scoring nine times in seven games, Portsmouth haven't been wholly convincing going forwards.

Jackett has previously fielded questions about the depth of his attack, so getting another body through the door is no bad thing.

Hiwula was prolific in 2018/19 for Coventry, but his form did nosedive a little last season for the Sky Blues.

If he's firing, he's an excellent free agent to pick up.
