Portsmouth looked likely to be promoted for most of the early part of the season, but a collapse after Christmas has left them in League One for another season.
They ended up finishing fourth, ahead of big-spending Sunderland but behind Charlton who were eventually promoted.
It was the Black Cats that finally ended the Pompey dream, despite having got the better of them at Wembley, they failed to score over two legs of the play-off semi-final and are condemned to another season in the third tier.
It's led to a very low-key summer for many of the squad, very few have seemingly been on big holidays or spent the summer living it up. We round-up some of their best stories from Instagram over the past few weeks.
Oliver Hawkins
Hawkins led the line for much of the season, ousting Brett Pitman before Christmas as Portsmouth climbed the table.
He found himself out of favour as they fell away, returning to bag the all-important winner at Wembley in the EFL Trophy final penalty shoot-out.
He's been relaxing in the sun this summer, although you wouldn't know it from his own Instagram. It appears his dog has his own page, with Hawkins tagged on a bench looking relaxed with his partner.

Ronan Curtis
Curtis only made the switch from Derry City in the summer, but he had a key role to play this season both out wide and through the centre of the attacking midfield area.
He bagged 11 goals as they pushed for promotion, but missed the end of the season after a freak injury.
He's not relaxing either, instead, he's on international duty with Ireland, posting a shot of him being quizzed by the media ahead of their match with Denmark tomorrow.
Craig MacGillivray
The stopper had a fine campaign for Pompey, conceding goals wasn't the problem and he's been one of their key players throughout.
The 26-year-old only played a handful of matches for Shrewsbury last season, but was ever-present in the league for Pompey, as well as a Wembley winner.
He's also having a quiet summer in terms of breaks, but it's a big moment for him nonetheless. he's just moved into his first home with his partner, posting a gushing message on social media to confirm.
