Portsmouth's on-loan star Stuart O'Keefe has admitted his side let their fans down this weekend with a lacklustre display against relegated Bury.

Kenny Jackett's side lost 1-0 at Gigg lane and Cardiff player O'Keefe admitted the side hadn't done the travelling fans justice.

"We know we bring good backing every week and to send them home disappointed is not what we want," he told Portsmouth.co.uk. "We want to put on a performance and ultimately get a good result for them"

Instead, they threatened to end their League One season with a whimper, bringing the current winless streak to five matches.

"It was lacklustre and we weren’t sharp enough. We looked lethargic and it showed against a team with nothing to play for this season. They are relegated and their confidence was at a low to begin with. But we let them get the goal and allowed them to get some confidence. We made it hard for ourselves."

Pompey now have just one final chance to give their fans something to savour over the summer, with Peterborough United the visitors next weekend. They too have ended the season disappointingly, failing to make the play-offs under new manager Steve Evans.

The Verdict

Saturday will see two sides who hoped for much more come together in a meaningless match. The meeting of the two might be more significant next campaign though, both will hope to be in the top seven, maybe even the top two.

Saturday was disappointing, but next season when Pompey face Sunderland and Bury face Macclesfield, few will remember it.
