Portsmouth have had a rather inconsistent start to the season and will hope that they can improve on their opening third of the campaign.

It's set to be an interesting time at the club, with many supporters thinking that Kenny Jackett might have been out of the door earlier on in the season, but they seem to have got past that phase and now they're hoping to push on and reach that top six.

There has been one positive over the last two weeks and that's in the attacking areas. There are two players who seemed to enjoy each other's company against Southend and that is the attacking partnership of John Marquis and Ellis Harrison.

Both forwards were on the scoresheet, but they've both got the ability to net over 10 goals at this level, especially with the supply that they can get from players such as Marcus Harness. Harrison even stated after the game that he enjoyed the partnership and wants to build on it in the future.

Pompey are just five points off the play-offs and have an opportunity to climb up even further in the coming weeks due to their improved form. The fans are still out on whether Jackett is the best man to take them forward, but if he can find a strike partnership that can be successful, then this could lead them being more threatening in attacking areas.

Marquis has been so potent at this level in the past, but he's only scored three goals so far this campaign and has really not looked at his best. Harrison is the same, and he's only managed to score three times this season, so there it is definitely worth trying them together, especially as nothing else has really worked.

This could be a massive moment in Portsmouth's season and if they are able to hit it off, then there's no reason why they can't have a successful campaign.
