Portsmouth need to help Brett Pitman, and this on-fire striker is the perfect signing in January

Portsmouth have had a mixed start to their 2017/18 Sky Bet League One season.

Kenny Jackett’s side are seriously struggling to maintain any form of consistency this season, and currently sit in 15th spot in the division.

After a title-winning campaign last year, expectations have risen amongst the Fratton Park faithful, so there will be concerns to see the south coast side struggling to battle in the higher echelons of the division.

Jackett secured the signing of Football League journeyman Brett Pitman in the summer and the 29-year-old looks to be a very shrewd acquisition.

The striker has already notched nine goals so far this season in the league, and it seems that all hopes will be pinned on the former AFC Bournemouth forward to help earn them a top six spot.

But Pompey cannot simply just rely on Pitman to score the majority of the goals this season, he needs help.

One man who is on fire in Sky Bet League Two is Reuben Reid of Exeter City.

The Grecians forward is the joint top-scorer in the division with seven goals, and he’s a key reason behind Exeter’s strong start to the campaign.

At the age of 29, Reid isn’t exactly young, but is know-how in front of goal is undoubted, and he could provide a perfect strike partner for Pitman.

Of course, it will be very tough for Jackett to prise away one of Exeter’s most influential stars, but the Pompey boss must keep tabs on the Bristol-born striker, as he could be the extra bit of firepower that could propel them to a top six spot.

The addition of Reid would also help develop the likes of Jamal Lowe and Conor Chaplin, as his experience and knowledge can be passed on to the younger members of Pompey’s attack.

Portsmouth…. Would you welcome the signing of Reuben Reid? Let us know below!
