Portsmouth looking to seal agreement for powerful forward

Sky Bet League One side Portsmouth are looking to complete a deal to sign Cardiff City striker Omar Bogle, according to reports from reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The 25-year-old has been on loan at Sky Bet Championship side Birmingham City for the first-half of this season, but has endured a tough time at St. Andrews, scoring just one goal in 16 appearances for Garry Monk’s men.

The striker, who has made just three league starts for Blues, could now be set for a move to League One promotion contenders Pompey, with reports from Nixon suggesting that there could be an imminent signing.

Bogle was incredible for Grimsby Town a few years ago, scoring 38 goals in 78 games for the Mariners before sealing a move to Wigan Athletic in January 2017, where his career has stagnated ever since.

The forward, after scoring three goals in 14 games for the Latics, then signed for Cardiff City for a reported fee of £1million in the summer of 2017.

But after scoring just three goals in 12 appearances for the Bluebirds, he now looks set for another exit away from the Welsh club, after enduring the second half of last season on loan at Peterborough United.

Pompey remain well in the hunt for promotion from League One despite losing their last two league games – Kenny Jackett’s men sit two points off table-toppers Luton Town, but have a game in hand on the Hatters.

The Verdict

Bogle needs regular game-time, and he could prove to be a shrewd signing for Pompey.

As alluded to before, he hasn’t scored as many goals as he would have liked to in recent years, but he’s still a real handful and could reignite his career in League One.

Pompey need some more firepower up front, and Bogle would certainly provide that.
