Portsmouth are preparing to lose full-back Anton Walkes this January transfer window as he could be on the move away from Fratton Park.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the weekend, manager Kenny Jackett has revealed that Walkes has been the subject of interest from an unnamed club this transfer window, Express FM's Jake Smith confirmed on Twitter.

Walkes has made 19 appearances during the current season having made most of his appearances at right-back, but has recently had to fill in at left-back because of injuries to Lee Brown and Brandon Haunstrup.

The 22-year-old is thought to be edging towards a move to MLS if the opportunity to move overseas arised, as he has mainly had to settle for a bit-part role this season after missing out the Leasing.com trophy win a couple of days ago at Walsall.

Walkes signed for the club in 2018 having previously been on the books of Tottenham Hotspur, and he spent a loan spell over in America with Atlanta United in 2017 as he got to grips with senior football.

The Verdict

It would be wrong of Portsmouth to stand in the way of Walkes securing a move away from Fratton Park, as he clearly has an urge to move away and secure a contract where he will have the opportunity to be a guaranteed regular.

Kenny Jackett seems resigned to losing Walkes this January and is prepared to let him go, with the other options at full-back more than capable of filling in the gaps that Walkes would be leaving within the squad.
