Portsmouth are now leading the chase for Cheltenham Town striker Mo Eisa, according to Gloucestershire Live.

Eisa's future is expected to be resolved in the next couple of days but Pompey could face a late gazump from an unnamed Championship club, who are ready to enter the bidding.

Sunderland and Peterborough United are also in the hunt for the 24-year-old and both sides have seen a number of bids rejected - the latest of which was a seven figure sum.

Portsmouth, who have made several bids for Eisa already, are the front runners in this pursuit.

The Sudanese striker netted 25 goals for the Robins in League Two last year and that has not gone unnoticed, with a host of admirers lining up for his services.

Cheltenham value Eisa at £1.5m with Pompey now leading the race.

If Portsmouth conclude this deal, it could pave the way for Conor Chaplin to join Coventry City.

The 21-year-old is wanted by Coventry to replace Marc McNulty but Portsmouth are waiting to find his replacement before sanctioning a deal.

The Verdict

Eisa would be a superb signing for Portsmouth and a real coup if they could beat Sunderland and Championship sides to his signature.

The former Greenwich striker is relatively young and a natural goal scorer.

He would provide great competition for Brett Pitman up top and that strike pair would surely fire the south coast side to a promotion challenge.
