Sky Bet League One side Portsmouth are believed to be in pole position to land Exeter City striker Jayden Stockley, according to reports from Devon Live.

The 25-year-old has been on fine form once again for the Grecians this season, and is one of the leading goalscorers in League Two having netted 15 goals in 27 games this term.

The powerful striker has replicated the form he displayed last season, where he scored 25 goals in 48 games, helping City to a League Two play-off final finish, only to be defeated by Coventry City at Wembley.

His form for the Grecians this season was bound to be noticed, with reports claiming that amid interest from League One giants Sunderland, Kenny Jackett's Pompey are believed to be in pole position to land the prolific forward.

Stockley is no stranger to those at Fratton Park - he made 12 appearances for the South Coast club during a loan spell from AFC Bournemouth in 2015, however, it is believed that the Blues look to be most likely to activate the striker's reported £750,000 release clause.

Despite a recent 2-0 defeat to Gillingham, Pompey remain top of League One, ahead of a clash with Fleetwood Town this weekend.

The Verdict

His previous spell at Fratton Park may not have gone down too well, but what a signing Stockley would be this time around.

He has been a magnificent goalscorer for Exeter over the last two seasons and definitely deserves the chance to step up a league.

At 6ft 3, he'd definitely provide some real competition for the leading men at Fratton Park, and he could be an amazing signing in Pompey's bid for promotion this term.
