Portsmouth are reportedly keen on a deal to sign Crewe Alexandra's Owen Dale, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Dale has caught the eye with some strong performances for the League One side, who finished 12th in the third tier standings this term under the management of David Artell.

The 22-year-old made 48 appearances in total for Crewe in the 2020/21 season, and chipped in with 12 goals and three assists in all competitions for them.

But it appears as though his strong performances haven't gone unnoticed, with Pompey being eager to land his signature ahead of the 2021/22 campaign this summer.

Nixon also claims that Wycombe Wanderers and Ipswich Town have been priced out of a move for Dale, who has a number of clubs keeping tabs on him.

Sunderland are another club that have previously been linked with a move for Dale this summer, although they're likely to be priced out of a deal for the forward as well.

Portsmouth's interest in a move for Dale could depend on Ronan Curtis' future though, with it being reported that the winger could be set to depart this summer, amid interest from other clubs.

Portsmouth are set to get their new league campaign underway on Saturday 7th August, when they take on Fleetwood Town, in what is likely to be a tricky test for Danny Cowley's side on the opening weekend of fixtures in League One.

The Verdict:

I like the sound of this potential agreement from a Portsmouth perspective.

With speculation continuing to link Ronan Curtis with a move away from Fratton Park this summer, it makes sense for the club to target an alternative early into the summer transfer window.

Dale has really impressed me in the 2020/21 season, and he'd be more than deserving of a move to a club that are likely to be challenging for promotion into the Championship this term.

Portsmouth are certainly that, and would surely fancy their chances of doing just that if they're to strike a deal to land Dale's signature this summer.
