Sky Bet League One side Chesterfield have rejected two bids from Portsmouth for midfielder Jay O’Shea, PA reports via Sky Sports.
It is understood the two bids put on the table by Pompey were no where near The Spireites’ valuation of the star-man.
The 27 year-old reportedly still has a year left on his current contract at Chesterfield.
Current Portsmouth manager Paul Cook knows a lot about O’Shea after leaving The Proact Stadium last year.
With Cook expecting to return with a much improved bid, the two clubs are set to discuss the matter later this week.
Speaking of rejecting two bids, Spireites chief executive Chris Turner said this in the interview by Sky Sports: “We don’t want the player to leave the club but it’s hard to say. I’ll put the ball in Danny’s court, he’s the manager. If Danny says the player wants to go, he’s been offered X and it’s a great deal then he’ll go.”
Jay O’Shea has been an ever-present in the League One side since signing in 2013 after leaving MK Dons by mutual consent. He was a vital part of Chesterfield’s promotion success in the 2013/14 campaign, scoring nine goals in 47 games that season.
