Portsmouth attacker Andy Cannon has sent a personal message after he bagged his first goal for the club on Tuesday night.

A 3-1 win against MK Dons saw Pompey strengthen their position in the top-six and close the gap on the automatic promotion places to just five points in the process.

Taking to Twitter after the final whistle and posting alongside a photo from the match, Cannon said simply: "That felt good!!"

QUIZ: Can you name this Portsmouth player based on their date of birth and birthplace?

Cannon opened the scoring with just four minutes on the clock, benefitting from some over confident Dons passing in defence, tapping home after Jordan Houghton had been caught in possession.

However, the clubs went in level at half-time with Alex Gilbey equalising in injury time after his initial penalty was saved, although the parity did not last for the visitors.

John Marquis restored the home lead just four minutes into the second half before Marcuss Harness made the points safe in injury time, cooly rounding Lee Nicholls before finishing.

The verdict

This was a really professional and comprehensive display from Pompey, although you would expect nothing less at Fratton Park.

It will be a huge boost for Cannon as well. The attacker has been a favourite of the Portsmouth fans for a while now but has been lacking that final touch in front of goal.

He could not pick a better time to finally start finding his best form. The League One promotion race looks like it will go right to the wire this season and having a player like Cannon peak at the right time could well be the difference.
