Joe Hancott and Leon Pitman are set to be offered short-term extension deals at Portsmouth to allow them to recover from their respective injuries and prove themselves capable of sticking around for the longer term - as per the Portsmouth News.

Hancott is one of the brightest young players at the club at the moment and holds the record of the club's youngest debutant, which he earned back in 2017.

Pitman, meanwhile, is a goalkeeper with the academy and joined in 2018, though both are currently injured.

Indeed, with that in mind, the men from Fratton Park have deemed it best to give them a contract extension of a few months, in order for the pair to get back to fitness and prove themselves worthy of a longer deal.

The Verdict

This is a measure we have seen Pompey use before with young players and it allows promising youngsters a bit of breathing room when they were bound to be concerned about their futures thanks to their fitness problems.

Both Hancott and Pitman should use this as a sign that the club remains willing to offer them an opportunity, and they'll no doubt be eager to show that is a wise choice once they get back to full strength.
