Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett will weigh up a move for former loan player Viv Solomon-Otabor if he leaves Birmingham City, as reported by Portsmouth.co.uk.

The flying winger spent the second half of the season on loan at Fratton Park, making seven appearances with five of those starts.

He was part of an infamous offside goal against Peterborough which could have given them a lead in a crucial automatic promotion match, but they ended up losing 3-2. However, his all round contribution has clearly impressed Jackett, who will move if the player is set to depart St Andrews.

The 23-year-old has been offered a new deal by Garry Monk, but if he turns it down there's seemingly a spot for him with Pompey.

"Viv has been offered a new deal with Birmingham," Jackett confirmed.

"He’s a really talented player – you could see his talent there. Perhaps he’s at the start of his journey and would have to build into that.

"But I do think within a short space of time then Viv could make the progress to be a good player. His potential is there. He is definitely not the finished article but it’s where we start with players as managers."

Solomon-Otabor emerged from the Birmingham youth ranks and has previously spent time on loan at both Blackpool and Bolton, before making the Pompey switch in January.

The Verdict

This would be a great move for the player. Portsmouth will undergo a serious reshuffle over the summer and he has a chance to establish himself there.

I don't think he did enough with them to warrant a first team place at Birmingham though, so it's going to be in his best interests to drop down a level and establish himself as a senior player.
