Portsmouth have confirmed this afternoon that Ronan Curtis has signed a new long-term contract to stay at Fratton Park.

The Ireland international has been a revelation since joining the League One side from outfit, scoring 11 goals as they reached the play-offs last season.

And, he has matched that total in the current campaign, with Curtis starring in recent weeks as Kenny Jackett's men are on an eight-game winning run that includes yesterday's vital win against Sunderland.

So, tying down his future has been a priority for Pompey and they confirmed the news of the three-and-a-half year deal on their official site and the boss explained why it was such a boost for the club.

"We’re all delighted that Ronan has signed a new contract and it shows the progress that we’re making. He’s made such a big impression in his first season-and-a-half at Pompey since arriving here from Ireland."

Curtis will hope to continue his fine form when Portsmouth take on Tranmere this weekend as they look to close the gap on the top two and extend their remarkable recent run.

The verdict

This is great news for Portsmouth as Curtis has been superb this season, particularly over the past few months.

Plus, at 23-years-old he has got his best years in front of him and Pompey will be hoping to see the forward in a blue shirt for the years to come.

This also shows that the player is pleased with how things are going right now and importantly he likes the ambition that they have.

Now, it's about Curtis playing his part to take the team back to the Championship.
