Jones signed a three-year deal with Pompey

Portsmouth confirmed that goalkeeper Paul Jones signed a three-year deal with the club.

27-year-old former Leyton Orient, Exeter and Peterborough goalkeeper played over one hundred games for Crawley and was first-team regular last season.

It is believed that Crawley couldn’t meet Jones’ wage demands anymore due to financial difficulties at the club so didn’t offer him a contract extension.

Boss Andy Awford said for the official website: “We’re delighted he signed – it’s a great acquisition for us.

“I watched him play for Crawley a few times last season and I liked what I saw. There have also been good reports from other people in the game that I trust.

“We fought off stiff competition from other clubs to bring him to Pompey and it’s great that he chose us.”
