Quoted by Sky Sports, Portsmouth CEO Mark Catlin has cast further doubt over League One coming to an agreement that satisfies clubs across the division over the future of the current season.

The third tier campaign seems to be the most in disarray at the moment.

The Premier League and Championship are looking to get back going in June, whilst League Two has gone the other way and is set for curtailment.

In League One, though, with its spread of budgets and close promotion race, there are very different points of interest at the table and the decision over the campaign is proving hard to reach because of that.

Portsmouth, of course, are guaranteed a play-off place if curtailment does happen and so they're perhaps more relaxed than those clubs just outside the top six.

For Catlin, too, a decision is proving difficult to find.

He said:

"I've got great sympathy for clubs like Peterborough that are on the brink of missing out so that's why we've batted so heavily for seeing this season out for clubs willing to do that, whilst trying to find a solution for those that don't want to.

"Even there, I've spoken to almost every club in our league throughout all of this and trying to find an agreement is very, very difficult."

The Verdict

Things are proving tough in League One and eventually, a decision is going to be needed instead of this seemingly perpetual postponement.

It's obviously a situation that no-one wants to have to deal with but, the facts are, it is something that needs to be sorted and quickly now.
