Portsmouth CEO Eric Eisner has aimed a dig at League One promotion rivals Sunderland over the upcoming release of the second series of their Netflix TV show.

The first series of 'Sunderland 'Til I Die' was released in December 2018 and documented the Black Cats' 2017/18 season, which resulted in them getting relegated from the Championship.

The show included behind the scenes and fly on the wall footage from inside the club during the season, as well as interviews with players, coaching staff and the fans.

It appears the cameras were kept rolling as it was announced recently that the second series, documenting their 2018/19 League One campaign, would air on the 1st of April this year.

Portsmouth met Sunderland five times last season, including in the final of the EFL Trophy at Wembley.

After a tightly-contested game ended 2-2 after extra time, Pompey came away 5-4 winners on penalties and ensured the trophy headed back to the South Coast with them.

The club made a joke about that game on their official Twitter account and it appears that Eisner couldn't help but aim a dig at the Black Cats himself.

Sunderland did have the last laugh last season, however, as they beat Pompey in the semi-finals of the League One play-offs, with Chris Maguire's goal providing decisive over the two legs.

The Black Cats would eventually lose to Charlton Athletic in the play-off final.

The Verdict

Pompey fans will surely love this dig from Eisner but it is only likely to frustrate Sunderland fans more after the club did similar yesterday.

Last season must've been a really tough one for the Stadium of Light faithful as they suffered two Wembley heartbreaks, losing the EFL Trophy final on penalties and then the play-off final to a 95th-minute winner.

Both sides look likely to finish in the play-off places again this season, so could we see a repeat of last season's semi-finals or might they meet at Wembley again?

After these recent digs it is likely to be spicy wherever they meet.
