Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley has stated that the club are close to making some more signings, during a recent interview that he gave to Hampshire Live.

The South Coast club have already been hard at work during the current window as they look to add to their existing squad, with Cowley and co having already brought in the likes of Shaun Williams, Clark Robertson, Kieron Freeman, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Jayden Reid, Gassan Ahadme, Liam Vincent and Gavin Bazunu.

Despite this Pompey are very low on squad options at present and are keen on bringing in as many as seven new faces on top of the cluster that have already arrived at Fratton Park.

Now Cowley has provided an update on their progress with regards to making those proposed new signings, as he stated the following recently:

"I know there are one or two things that we're close too, but the nature of modern day football, you speak to the player, have a good conversation with them. With a number players, we've done a million Zoom calls just to present ourselves really, the football club."

A number of trialists featured for the club in their win over Peterborough United in pre-season, with the players looking to earn themselves a contract on the South Coast.

However it is unclear if Cowley plans to sign these players up or not at present.

The Verdict

Despite bringing in a host of new players over the past few weeks, it is clear that Pompey are no where near where they want to be on the recruitment front.

There is still a lot of work to do in order to get bodies through the door at Fratton Park and I think it will be interesting to see which areas Cowley looks to strengthen the most.

They have left it pretty late in the window to get their business done and dusted and I think there is a danger that they may not hit their target of bringing seven in.

However it appears that some deals may be close to completion, which will provide a welcome boost to everyone at the club as the season draws closer.
