Plymouth's Freddie Ladapo is being targeted once again by Portsmouth and Sunderland, according to Plymouth Live.

The two League One giants had bids rejected for Ladapo in January, but Plymouth Live report that Plymouth could accept £500,000 fees from both clubs.

Ladapo enjoyed a brilliant season individually despite The Pilgrims' relegation. He netted 19 times in total, and made three assists, so it is little surprise that the 26-year-old has attracted interest from elsewhere.

The striker could become the latest player to depart Home Park this summer. Graham Carey turned down a new contract in order to join CSKA Sofia earlier this week, and Ruben Lameiras could also leave on a free amid interest from the Championship.

If Ladapo also follows them out of the door it would be a big blow to new manager Ryan Lowe, and to Plymouth fans who consider them all fan favourites.

Ladapo joined Plymouth only last summer but hit the ground running. He still has a year left on his contract but will likely not want to drop down to League Two and with Sunderland and Portsmouth interested, it is understandable if he wants to leave.

The Verdict

Ladapo has proved that he is far too good for League Two and too good for Plymouth. In some circumstances it could be possible to persuade him to stay for another year with the promise of promotion, but when clubs like Sunderland and Portsmouth come knocking it is very hard not to be interested.

He would be a good signing for those two clubs. He is still relatively young and his finishing is amongst the best in the division. Playing in a better side would only serve to make him even more productive. He would be a very exciting signing for either club.
