Portsmouth, Oxford, MK Dons and Fleetwood Town are all interested in signing Scunthorpe United defender Jacob Bedeau, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Bedeau joined Scunthorpe from Aston Villa in January 2019 having never made a senior appearances for the Premier League side.

The 21-year-old has since gone onto make 52 appearances in all competitions for Scunthorpe, scoring twice for the League Two club.

Now it seems as though his performances have attracted plenty of attention from further up the football pyramid.

According to this latest update, Portsmouth and Oxford, along with MK Dons and Fleetwood, are interested in the signing of Bedeau come the summer.

As things stand, Bedeau is out of contract at Scunthorpe at the end of the season, with the Iron reportedly unable to afford to take up the option to extend his contract by a further 12 months, meaning he is now set to be available on a free transfer.

What colour is Pompey's away kit this season?

That is something that is thought to have alerted these League One sides, who could now be set to do battle for his signature in the next few months.

The Verdict

This does look as though it could be a decent signing for one of these sides.

Bedeau is clearly a player with plenty of potential, and at 21-years-old, he does have a lot of time to improve in his career, meaning he could be an asset for one of these sides in the future.

As a result, it does seem to make sense for one of these clubs to look to sign him now, when his availability on a free will certainly be useful in the current financial climate.

With that in mind, it doesn’t feel like much of a surprise to see this interest emerge in Bedeau.
