Charlton Athletic chairman Matt Southall has sent a message to the club's fans following their impressive 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

Not many people gave Lee Bowyer's men much of a chance going into the clash but they were always going to put in a spirited showing, ultimately coming away with all three points.

Taking to Twitter after the final whistle, Southall said: "Magnificent win!! Brilliant from Lee, the players and every fan that got behind the team tonight. See you Saturday for a full house at the Valley! 🙌🏼 #rockthevalley #cafc #COYR".

QUIZ: How much do you know about Charlton’s January signings?

The game was just 24 minutes old when Charlton took the lead and it was Naby Sarr at the heart of it, robbing possession on the left hand side before whipping in a delicious cross.

It could not have been better placed for Lyle Taylor who gratefully finished first-time in the box to edge the Addicks ahead.

Tiago Silva and Matty Cash both tested Dillon Phillips in the remainder of the game but it was Sarr who came closest to equalising, narrowly avoiding his own goal after slicing a Carl Jenkinson delivery in his own box.

The verdict

Matt Southall may just be the most popular chairman in the Championship right now and it is easy to see why with this sort of interraction.

He got a bit of unfair stick during January for not suddenly splashing a load of money around but I think those fans who were frustrated are now coming round to the idea of his sensibility.

Survival had to be the priority this season and keeping hold of people like Lyle Taylor and bringing in short term experience looks like it will be enough to do the job for them.
