Stat guru, Goodbrand stats (@StatsChristian), has taken a look at Andy Lonergan’s contribution during Leeds United’s miserable run of form in the Sky Bet Championship.

Thomas Christiansen made a bold decision at Elland Road last month, dropping Felix Wiedwald, who began the season as number one, for Lonergan, after the performances of the German goalkeeper came in for criticism from sections of Leeds’ support.

Lonergan has featured in Leeds’ last five Championship fixtures, which have brought four defeats. @StatsChristian has looked in focus at the three defeats Leeds have suffered in their last three fixtures, where Sheffield United, Derby County and Brentford have all taken three points from the Whites.

From those three fixtures, Leeds have conceded seven goals from just 15 shots on target, meaning that Lonergan is saving just over 50% of shots he is facing – a worrying statistic for the goalkeeper.

The 34-year-old was widely criticised for his role in Leeds’ most recent defeat to Brentford, with the goalkeeper making two mistakes, which directly led to the Bees taking the lead against Christiansen’s side.

Saturday evening’s defeat has left Leeds 10th in the Championship table heading into next weekend’s international break.

The Verdict

This does not make good reading for Lonergan, who now finds himself under pressure at Elland Road after just a handful of first-team appearances.

Lonergan’s mistakes on Saturday cost Leeds a point, and with the goalkeeper failing to make crucial saves, Christiansen may opt for yet another change following the international break.

These stats will add further fuel to the fire as to why Leeds let Rob Green leave over summer.
