Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is looking to solve his potential goal-keeper dilemma in the New Year, with current number one Kiko Casilla facing a ban of at least six matches if he is found guilty of racially abusing Charlton Athletic’s Jonathan Leko during a game earlier this season, for which he has been charged, but strenuously denies.

With Casilla's future uncertain, Bielsa looks keen to bring in cover, with out-of-favour Birmingham City keeper David Stockdale the player he could turn to, according to the print edition of The Sunday People (November 17, Page 50).

So would Leeds-born Stockdale prove a sensible option if he moved to Elland Road?

We discuss...........

"I think this would be a smart signing for Leeds. Stockdale is a good goalkeeper and he's got plenty of experience in the Championship.

"Even though he hasn't played that much football recently, he'd still be able to make an impact if he were to make the switch to Elland Road.

"He seems to have fallen out of favour at Birmingham, so there's every chance that he could be tempted by the chance to join Leeds and he should be available for cheap too.

"Kiko Casilla is a talented goalkeeper and has been a key player for Leeds this season, but bringing in an experienced back-up option would be a sensible decision."

“Poor choice for me, if Leeds were to pursue this option because Stockdale hasn’t been a regular starter in the league for two seasons, having been seemingly exiled by Birmingham.

“If he joined Leeds, he might be thrust straight into first-team action with Kiko Casilla facing a potentially lengthy ban and this could present a problem because it’s clear he will be shaky.

“Leeds are clearly in the market for a goalkeeper in the wake of Casilla’s ongoing investigation but the Whites should turn their attention to more guaranteed quality.

“This wouldn’t be a sensible signing because Stockdale is low on confidence, he would command a hefty wage, and there are more competent options that Leeds could pursue in this league alone.”

Toby Wilding

"In a way, this is probably a safe move.

"It is worth remembering that if Casilla is banned, then it does not mean that he is never going to play for Leeds again, so they do not necessarily need a new number one to replace him long term.

"As a result, a move for someone such as Stockdale, who has the experience required to step in while Casilla is on the sideline, could be a sensible one, since at his age and with his recent situation, he is unlikely to expect to be given a longer-term run in the side.

"Considering it also seems as though this would be a big opportunity for Stockdale to play a part in Leeds' push for promotion, while at least getting a run of games in the Championship, you imagine this is a move that would tempt the goalkeeper himself."
