‘Poor bloke’, ‘We are all behind you’ – These Portsmouth fans rally round key club figure following Swindon loss

Portsmouth were dealt a major blow last night in their battle to reach the play-offs as struggling Swindon Town defeated them 3-1 at the County Ground.

The honeymoon period for Danny Cowley is well and truly over after he won his first four matches in charge following his arrival at Fratton Park in late March, but things have taken a bit of a down-turn since.

Pompey have now not won in four games – losing three of those – and their latest setback saw them drop to eighth in the table, losing their spot in the play-off places with Charlton Athletic taking it up with a 6-0 demolition job over Plymouth Argyle.

They dominated the ball last night with 68% of the possession compared to manager-less Swindon’s 32%, however that counted for nothing in the end as a former Pompey player in Brett Pitman came back to haunt his former side with a brace.

Despite defeat, Cowley’s post-match verdict was still one of positivity despite a damning defeat, with the belief in his mind that Pompey can still reach the play-offs if they achieve 10 or 12 points from their final four games.

He also is fully aware though of some of Portsmouth’s on-field issues, pinpointing the ‘decisive moments’ as an area that the squad need to improve on.

The reaction to Cowley’s comments from fans were generally sympathetic, and some have already written off the rest of this season despite the play-offs still being in reach.
