It has been claimed Pontus Jansson's Leeds United future hangs in the balance amid a poor relationship with Marcelo Bielsa, according to Football Insider.

The defender has been a regular at the heart of defence this campaign as Leeds missed out on Premier League promotion following a play-off semi-final defeat to Derby County.

Jansson formed a solid defensive partnership with Liam Cooper over the course of the season, with both players earning a spot in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

The report claims Leeds could look to offload a number of their key assets this summer, and Jansson could be among those due to his frosty relationship with Bielsa.

But Jansson's brother, Peter, has now taken to Twitter to dismiss these claims, which he believes are "fake news".

Peter has regularly spoken out on stories regarding his brother, and he is often quick to quash reports suggesting the defender could be heading for the Elland Road exit.

Jansson made 39 league appearances as Leeds finished third in the Championship, while he has been a consistently impressive performer since initially joining on loan from Torino in 2016.

The Verdict

Peter's comments here suggest that reports of Jansson's Leeds exit are indeed wide of the mark.

It is not really a surprise that Jansson and Bielsa do not share a great relationship, as they are very different characters and Bielsa traditionally maintains a distance between himself and his players.

Bielsa has publicly spoken out about Jansson's importance to this Leeds side, so I would fully expect him to remain at Elland Road next term.
