Leeds United have recently announced that Pablo Hernandez has signed a new deal with the club, which will keep him at Elland Road until the summer of 2022.

Hernandez has been key to Leeds' impressive showings in recent seasons, and will have been frustrated after such a strong league campaign last term.

The Spaniard was on hand to score 12 goals and provide 12 assists for Marcelo Bielsa's side, as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League after a defeat to Derby County in the play-off semi-final.

He's had an injury-hit season so far though, and will be keen to make up for lost time when he returns to the first team picture in the near future.

Plenty of the Leeds squad reacted to his message after the announcement, and even some of Hernandez's former team-mates sent messages to the midfielder.

Pontus Jansson was one of those, as he posted a message which translates to 'best wishes'.

Jansson left the club in favour of a move to Brentford at the end of last season, but Leeds don't seem to be missing him too much this term.

Ben White has filled the sizeable void left by Jansson, and plenty of Leeds fans will feel as though he's performing to a higher standard than the Swedish international did in his time with the club.

Hernandez and his Leeds team-mates will be hoping they can make it three wins in a row this weekend, when they take on Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in a game where they'll be expected to come away with three points to show for their efforts.

The Verdict:

It's good to see they're both still in contact and keeping a close eye on how they're getting on at both of their clubs.

Hernandez fully-deserved his new contract as he's been a crucial member of the Leeds squad in recent seasons. He's showing that age is just a number as well, as he seems to be getting better as the years go on.

I firmly believe that Leeds will be playing their football in the Premier League next season, and if Hernandez can stay fit, they'll have every chance of achieving that.
