Pontus Jansson has revealed he has lost four kilos and reduced his body fat because of the new training regime implemented by Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentinian took over at Elland Road in the summer and is well-known for his precise details when it comes to training, whilst he also demands a high-intensity style of play from his team.

He had his side doing triple sessions in pre-season, with the players often starting work at 9am and finishing up at 7pm.

Speaking to Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen, Jansson revealed that he has been impacted by the new methods - with the players weighed every day too:

"It was a shock. But now it's calmed down because we have so many matches. Then, for my part, physically, that's an incredible difference. I have gone down four kilos and lost a lot in body fat which for him is basically the beginning to start playing.

"If you are not in the right sense, you can hardly train. There is a weighing in every morning, if you're not right there, you'll hear it."

The Verdict

It's clear that Bielsa has made major changes to Leeds since taking over and this is an example of how he is getting the players into peak condition.

With the way his side plays, if you aren't in the best shape possible, to press, move and run, then you won't be needed.

Ultimately, the players have the choice and clearly Jansson has shown he wants to be a part of things by losing four kilos - it should make him a better defender too.
