Pontus Jansson has stated that collecting a fine for turning up late to Brentford training as he went to watch Malmö was 'worth it'.

The Bees captain went to watch the Swedish giants in action during their Europa League game against Danish club Copenhagen.

He made the trip all in 24 hours and returned late for training on the Friday having been to the game the night before.

Jansson has only just moved to Brentford in the summer and is looking to become the first captain to guide the club into the Premier League.

The Swedish international has expressed how much he enjoyed it, and has stated that it was worth the fine to watch Malmö play.

Talking to Fotbollskanalen, Jansson said: “It was awesome. It was incredibly busy days. I had a match on Wednesday night, then I went home (to Malmö) on Thursday morning and then we had a match again on Saturday. I can’t do that every week, but it was worth it, of course. It was against FCK.

“We had rehab on Thursday and then I left immediately after that. We train only ten minutes from Heathrow so it was smooth. I arrived a little late for training on Friday, and took a fine, but it was worth it."

The Verdict

This is quite an interesting one, and I'm sure some Brentford fans will probably be quite angry because he's almost valuing the team he supports over the one that he is captain for.

If Brentford have a game on the Saturday, it would take out a lot of energy and time to focus and concentrate your body if you are travelling between countries and having to get up early to try and get back to training on time.

Jansson has to take more responsibility as captain, as say the flight had been even more delayed and he'd have missed training altogether, that would not look good to other teammates who are meant to respect him.
