Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has heaped praise on his teammates and the spirit within the squad after the Whites bounced back to the top of the league last night.

The Swede opened the scoring in the 2-1 win against Swansea City at Elland Road which saw them leapfrog Norwich City after their defeat to Preston North End.

Taking to Twitter, Jansson wrote: "To play in a team where everyone around you feels like your best mate it’s a sick feeling. Top of the league!

"On Saturday we need you all more than ever!"

The match was just 20 minutes old when the 28-year-old opened the scoring, finishing brilliantly into the bottom corner after a scramble in the Swansea box.

And it was 2-0 just 14 minutes later as Jack Harrison headed home Ezgjan Alioski's cross at the near post to ease the Elland Road nerves.

Swansea narrowed the scoreline late on when Oli McBurnie converted from the spot following a clumsy Luke Ayling foul but the Whites held on for a crucial three points.

The verdict

It cannot be underestimated how big a win this was for Leeds.

Not just picking up the three points but the manner of the win will have been a huge boost to everyone at the club.

After recent weeks, not many would have been surprised to see them sit back and defend their early lead but Bielsa seemed intent on making a statement and Jansson was the epitome of his manager's attitude on the pitch.
