There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Leeds’ Pontus Jansson.

West Brom are one clubs that have reportedly been eyeing a move for the defender.

The Caggies were looking to pair him up with former Elland Road loanee Kyle Bartley who moved to The Hawthorns permanently this summer.

The defender is yet to return to pre-season training with the rest of his teammates after being granted an extended break due to his involvement in this summer's World Cup with Sweden.

Leeds needed to show ambition to keep hold of the Swedish defender as fans were sceptical if they would ever going to see the commanding defender pull on the club’s famous white kit again.

With Marco Bielsa in charge, Swedish outlet Expressen is reporting that Jansson is set to pin his flag to the mast and stay at Elland Road, putting all other rumours of a transfer away from the club to bed once and for all.

"I want to experience many things in my career. I have always said that the dream is to play in the Premier League with Leeds. That's all I have in my head right now. I've been there for two years and have experienced the most, both positive and negative," he told Expressen.

"Just for that reason, it feels even better to be in Leeds. I think he will benefit my personal development. As a team, Leeds needs a hard coach, I myself have had coaches of that kind in Italy. It's a completely different mentality that I really like," he went on to add discussing Bielsa's appointment.

Jansson’s dream is to take Leeds to the Premier League, and the appointment of Bielsa seems to be all the ambition needed to get the Swede to want to continue to line up in the Leeds defence.

The Verdict

Jansson seemingly shutting down any further transfer speculation should be music to Leeds supporter’s ears.

With a lack of transfer activity so far this summer, this is finally some good news for the Yorkshire side.

The defender was an integral part of a Leeds side that mounted an early charge up the Championship table before a poor second-half of the season saw them falter to a bottom-half finish.

Leeds will be a harder team to break down now with Jansson staying so this could well be the best bit of business the club do all summer, regardless of any potential future arrivals.
