David Connolly looks almost certain to be leaving Portsmouth this summer, having not even made the squad for their first pre-season game.

26 players featured for Pompey against Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday, but veteran Connolly, 37, didn't even travel.

And then there's the recent loan signing of Swindon striker Miles Storey.

Last season there had been reports that the much traveled striker's attitude was less than impressive.

This speculation only persisted when Ritchie Barker was appointed manager and dropped Connolly from the coaching role he had previously occupied under Guy Whittingham.

Barker then proceeded to ship the former Southampton striker off on loan to League Two rivals Oxford for the remainder of the season, despite only having 3 other forwards on the books at the time.

Connolly, who netted 4 goals in 16 appearances for the U's, has returned to pre-season training with the Hampshire side but with six other strikers vying for a place in the team and boss Andy Awford looking to build a young, pacey team there doesn't appear to be any room for the Irishman in his squad.
