It has been a very, very busy for new Derby County boss Paul Clement, signing nine players in his first transfer window back in English football.

Despite their disappointing start to the season, drawing four games and losing one, it still continues to look like the Rams who will be there or thereabouts come May.

The Rams have spent over £20 million this summer on some big players who really have the quality to take them to the Premier League.

The signings of Tom Ince (Undisclosed), Darren Bent (Free) was a perfect way to make the iPro Stadium happy at the start of the summer, both being players who added some quality to the Rams' squad last season and I am sure will continue to do so this season.

Paul Clement also managed to snap up defender Alex Pearce from Reading, recently appointed club captain Chris Baird, and goalkeeper Scott Carson on free transfers. They may have not been the most glamorous of Derby signings this summer, but all three players will certainly bring a wealth of Football League experience to a young Derby side.

It would be fair to say Derby's defending at times last season was the reason they so cruelly missed out on the play off's and with the signing of Jason Shackell from Burnley for £3 million, the Rams have added a real leader in the back four who has been there and done in both the Championship and Premier League.

After losing star midfielder Will Hughes for six months, the Rams wasted no time in bringing in a few midfielders who have arguably been their most impressive signings this summer. Andreas Weimann from Aston Villa has yet to show his capabilities for the Rams but with the experience he has it is surely only a matter of time before he is a real nuisance in the Sky Bet Championship.

Their deadline day signings of Jacob Butterfield and Bradley Johnson was also a real statement to other teams in the Football League.

Butterfield has been a star player for Huddersfield in recent seasons and his flair will help Derby's midfielder considerably. The same goes to Bradley Johnson, who in my view, is the Rams' best summer signing.

Johnson had an exceptional promotion winning season with Norwich City last season scoring 14 and being a key midfielder for all of last season. Johnson's performances will be vital in how they fair this season.
