According to The Sun - reported via The Leicester Mercury - Norwich City midfielder James Maddison is now a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham want to dip into the Championship to poach Maddison and they have also made a £15m bid for Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.

Both Grealish and Maddison are rated as two of the most talented young attacking midfielders in the country with a host of Premier League clubs lining up moves for one or both of them.

Leicester City lead the chase for Maddison but Everton and West Ham United are also interested in the 21-year-old star, who netted 15 goals from midfield last term.

But now Spurs have joined the race, hoping to convince the England under-21 to join them as they prepare for another year in the Champions League.

The North London side have also been trying to snap up Grealish, who hit three goals and six assists for Villa last season.

The West Midlands outfit may be forced into a sale, considering their current financial crisis, but have rated him at £40m rather than the £15m bid that Spurs have submitted.

Maddison is expected to cost more than £20m.

The Verdict

Maddison would be an astute, prudential signing for Spurs.

Not only would he provide good back-up for the first-team players this season, but the former Coventry City academy product would soon be ready to play a starring role in the senior side if he continues to develop at this rate.

With superb technical ability, a range of passing and an eye for goal, a £20m outlay would be a decent investment for Tottenham to make.
