Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe has said he is hopeful midfielder Conor Grant did not sustain a serious thigh injury during his side's victory over Swindon last night.

The Pilgrims ran out 3-0 winners in the Leasing.com Trophy encounter at the County Ground with Zak Rudden, Joel Grant and Joe Riley all netting for the League Two side.

However, this emphatic success was overshadowed by Conor Grant's injury which forced him into being replaced by Adam Randell in the 56th minute of Tuesday night's encounter.

The midfielder was making his third consecutive start for the south-west club after spending a month out of the sidelines, and Lowe has now declared his hope that the 24-year-old will be available for the League Two rematch against Swindon on Saturday.

Speaking to Plymouth Live, Lowe confirmed the injury suffered by Grant but suggested it could be down to the fact he has played two games in a short period after a run out of the side.

“I’m hoping it is a little bit of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). Conor has played two games in quick succession after not playing for a while," he said.

“He thinks it’s alright. We will assess him tonight and tomorrow but hopefully he will be fine. Conor just felt something tighten in his thigh when he was running. I’m hoping it’s just a little bit of fatigue.”

Grant signed for Plymouth in the summer of 2018 after seeing his contract expire with Premier League side Everton, but he will be targeting a more successful second season at the club after being part of the squad that got relegated to League Two last term.

The Verdict

This injury setback could come as a blow to Grant who had just managed to force his way back into the Plymouth side after a frustrating spell on the sidelines.

The midfielder has had a number of injury troubles in the past and the Pilgrims will now hope this latest injury is just a minor trouble, as Grant is a useful member of the side who Lowe will be keen to have available for the weekend.

He scored an excellent goal against Mansfield in late September in what was his first goal for the club since his 2018 move, so hopefully this injury will not prevent him riding this wave of confidence at the moment.

Plymouth are in the middle of a challenging period having only recorded one win in their last seven, and it is important Lowe has most of his squad available as they look to assemble a more impressive run.
