Plymouth Argyle are closing in on their new manager, with an announcement due this week according to Plymouth Live.

The Pilgrims sacked Derek Adams at the end of last season, but failed to avoid relegation from League One despite a 3-2 victory against Scunthorpe United on the final day.

They're now facing up to life in League Two and much like their fellow relegated sides, they'll embark on their adventure with a new manager.

Bradford City appointed Gary Bowyer before the end of the normal season, but Walsall and Scunthorpe have moved to secure the services of Darrell Clarke and Paul Hurst respectively. The Pilgrims will become the last of the relegated sides to name their new manager.

Bury boss Ryan Lowe, promoted at the end of the campaign with the Shakers, is widely believed to be in the frame. His current team are in financial difficulty and he's been heavily tipped to be unveiled at Home Park.

The report suggests an announcement could come by the middle of the week, giving the new manager ample time to shape his squad.

The Verdict

If it is Lowe, it will be a statement capture. He was widely linked with the Luton Town job at the turn of the year, so to stay in League Two as his team are promoted would be a real shock.

Plymouth are a big club though, they've got the means and the support to bounce back at the first opportunity. Bury look to be in serious trouble and that might just force Lowe's hand.
