Sky Bet League Two side Plymouth Argyle are interested in signing former Bristol City goalkeeper Frank Fielding, according to reports from the Daily Mail's live transfer blog (25/06, 11:15).

The 31-year-old signed for the Robins from Derby County in 2013, and went on to make over 180 appearances for the club during a six-year stay at Ashton Gate.

The experienced shot-stopper played an influential role in helping the Robins win promotion to the Championship in the 2014/15 season, as well as helping them lift the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the same campaign.

But after making just seven appearances in all competitions for Lee Johnson's side last season, Fielding was recently let go by the Robins upon the expiry of his contract at Ashton Gate.

Now, it is claimed that Plymouth Argyle are interested in landing the goalkeeper on a free transfer, as Ryan Lowe looks to guide the Pilgrims back up to League One at the first time of asking next season.

The Devon club had Matt Macey on loan from Arsenal last season, but it is claimed that Lowe is looking for an experienced shot-stopper to lead from the back next season.

The Verdict

It would be a real coup for Plymouth if they managed to sign Fielding - he wouldn't cost anything in terms of a transfer fee, but his wages are likely to be quite high having played in the Championship for the majority of his career.

He is a vastly experienced goalkeeper and found himself unlucky not to break into the City starting line-up last season.

Argyle definitely need another goalkeeper, and the signing of an experienced leader like Fielding would stand them in good stead ahead of the 19/20 campaign.
