Plymouth Argyle are interested in appointing Bury boss Ryan Lowe as their new manager, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The Pilgrims were relegated from League One on the final day of the campaign, just days after parting company with long-standing manager Derek Adams.

The Devon club will undoubtedly be looking to bounce back with promotion at the first time of asking next season, and it is believed that Bury manager Ryan Lowe is on the club's radar.

The 40-year old has been a resounding success at the helm of the Shakers this season, guiding the Lancashire club to automatic promotion League Two under tough conditions behind-the-scenes.

Nixon's report backs up the Plymouth Herald's claims that Lowe has held talks with the club, as Argyle look to make an appointment sooner than later so that preparations can be made for next season.

Plymouth finished 21st in the Sky Bet League One table, and were relegated on goal difference despite a final-day win over Scunthorpe United, who were also relegated to League Two.

The Verdict

I am very surprised at this, as I can't see why Lowe would want to leave Bury after such an impressive season at the helm.

The club have had their fair share of off-field problems though, so that could be probably one of the main reasons why he wants to leave Gigg Lane.

Plymouth are a big club with a massive fanbase, and they definitely have the players to take them straight back up to League Two next season.

Lowe is an excellent manager who plays fantastic football, and he would be a success at Home Park for sure.
